Capitola-ness

This week, I had two full rehearsals for the Capitola. Next week I will have more. Rumor has it that a special guest bass player will be joining our little group for Sept 19. He may or may not be Aaron Johnson from the band previously known as Sweet Jelly who has since gone back to his roots as a jazz musician and comic strip tycoon. See? I told you that the break up of Sweet Jelly was amicable. Truth be told I am ecstatic that he is going to join us. He and his upright bass. He is a phenomenal musician, performer and friend.

Last night’s rehearsal with Jenny and Mark was so much fun. We didn’t need to, but all three of us talked in mic’s to each other as we played, joked around and sung together. Gave Jenny’s neighbors a real show and turned it up to 11. Folk style 11, but still 11 nonetheless. When I walked out to the car to get something, I was surprised how much could be heard outside just from my little six channel practice amp. I should have taken pictures, movies, recorded something but I didn’t. Next time I will. It was just an amazing amount of fun and I felt great (and grateful) inside as I drove home with the moon out listening/singing to tunes on my iPod in the car.

Making music with like minded people again has done wonders for my soul. After several months of feeling a huge sense of loss due to the “retirement” of my band, along with a few other things, I am finally feeling positive about that change and looking forward to the future releasing some regret and sadness about Sweet Jelly’s end. Feels good. Finally. I’m pretty excited and grateful for this new opportunity and experience, especially since it’s forecasted to be of the ongoing nature. So stay tuned for more dates.

September 19th cannot show up soon enough. Should be a lot of fun that night.
