Went to a garden party…
I know. A week in-between blog updates is teetering crazily on not keeping things truly updated at all. But it is better than nothing. Or two weeks or a month in-between, right? And good habits take time to learn. That also means I have to get rid of a bad one in order to adopt a new one. No? Maybe not. I also showed up here with a studio podcast that takes a little time in constructing along with constructing items to actually show “in” a podcast, so I feel I should get some gold stars for that at least. The podcasts keep the artistic motivation going in an odd way which is why I do them at all. Well, and the nice feedback I have gotten about them too. That’s always a strong motivation.
More art and music are planned for this week. A kind Twitterville citizen politely suggested that the last podcast was a little long and took a while to download, which was a good point. In mulling that over, I had an additional idea that by keeping these podcasts a little smaller, I might be able to make them more frequently. It’s a theory anyway.
Last night I had a great Capitola practice with Mark Miskelly and Jenny Green. Unfortunately she won’t be able to join us for quite a while regarding these upcoming shows but hopefully she will come out one of these times. She’s one talented lady. The next Capitola reading is in Platteville, WI at the Driftless Market on January 30th at 1:00pm. Please come out if you can. We all promise to put on a good show for you.
In-between practices…
as mentioned in the previous blog update, I have been getting into reading graphic novels before I nod off. Did I mention that I wonder if this has been a contributing factor to my nightmares and extreme migraines I have been experiencing for an entire week straight? I can’t remember if I did or not. But I’m sure it has more to do with the high pressure system rolling through and repressed mental/emotional baggage I have instead of the books. Just a hunch.
Anyway, here are the novels I completed this week with a brief commentary on them for the interested. I’m still saving up on all the Rex Libris’ I acquired over Christmas in a hoarding type fashion. Oh, and I didn’t finish Burma Chronicles yet. ADD kicked in.

“Jelly Fruit” by Catia Chien. This was an excerpt from the Flight books series. I love how she contrasted the supposed meek/weak with the scary/intimidating and can’t wait to scoop up more of her titles. Her watercolor style is pretty exquisite.

“Weather Vain” by Hope Larson was another excerpt from the Flight books series. The art style was right up my alley and the bittersweet tale had no happy ending. My favorite.

“The Party After You Left” by Roz Chast officially the funniest thing I have read in a very long time. And she might quite possibly be my new hero. Her sarcasm gets an extreme A+ and I loved her watercolor style.

“Never Ending Summer” by Allison Cole was incredibly engaging, couldn’t stop turning the pages and had a nice depressing/matter of fact take on real life situations. Sensing a theme with me? I know. The pigtails are misleading.

ooo goodie!!! I like the new art pieces alot! THe year of the tiger, ay? Well lets hope it will be better than the Ox. I remember that constellation map and yes it is from NatGeo. I remember it becuase t remember looking at it as a kid and not knowing what the heck it was. It like an alien map to me. Cool Beans that you have it!! Cant wait for more glimpses into your lair!
Hey thanks Cindy!! I know it really doesn’t look like much at the moment, but as mentioned in the podcast, I did spend a lot of time reworking them. The red/orange ones especially. The underwaterness of the mermaid one still has more wrestling with paint to go.
And yeah, Dad pointed out that the map was hanging on my wall as a teenager so that’s prob where you saw it, yes? He added “next to all your Michael Jackson posters”. Yes Dad. I know.
Im glad you are excited about more glimpses into my lair. You make up a very small percentage, but that just makes it more elite (ha-ha-ha) More to come for sure
xoxo
Chinese New Year (Spring Festival) is on Valentine’s Day this year.
POOP! I checked several sources too! I’ll clear that up in my next podcast. Thanks Mo. At least something good is being done on that horrid day
Umm isn’t the next Capitola Review then also?
Excellent point, Mo.
