This is a song I’d “scream sing” all the way down from Madison to Milwaukee for Sweet Jelly practices on Tuesday nights once upon a time long long long ago. All day I had been in a cube at a toy company making Flash animations for the children and I tried hard to keep a lid on my growing excitement for rocking out later but I didn’t do a very good job. I know I made a spectacle of myself. It really did feel weird being in a band while I worked at a button-upped corporation. It always felt like I was doing something wrong UNTIL I read that Elvis Costello was also in a complete non-rock quiet computer job and wrote songs while he worked there. Then I started to feel a lot better about my weird affliction for wanting to be in a band.

I’ve been completely engrossed in starting a larger (24” x 24”) Museum Series piece centering around penguins. As you can see, I’m in the super early stages of assembly and painting. The diorama has not been built and no holes have been drilled yet. It’s weird working bigger but I’ve been enjoying more space to add things like slides and one or two more paper dioramas to complete my "exhibit". I have a couple penguin slides waiting in the wings that will also be included in this piece.

Discoveries made today are that Gwen Stefani’s singing is to what Eddie Van Halen is to guitar playing. “Shredding” comes to mind. I’ve been keeping an eye on Gwen through the internet since she started up her Vegas shows again (SQUEE!!!). SHE IS SO DYNAMIC ON STAGE! And that voice. Jesus Christ Almighty her voice is a crazy work of art. I let out a lot of angst today deciding to sing this. It’s always in the back in my mind that “I’m making too much noise” with my volume and I think that holds me back from progressing. I’ve been working on that in particular lately along with “why do I have any right to attempt this song” narrative. I’m just being totally honest here. Since there are officially no more rules thanks to 2020, well, this has been making things a lot easier in my head, heart and voice. Keeping that in mind. Today’s Bird People Tarot card offering is the Ace of Knives (Swords) and the Seven of Knives (Swords). The Aces of a tarot deck present a challenge for me due to the lack of imagery on those cards. The wing is supposed to represent the hand in the cloud that's typically pictured on Ace cards, but I'm still on the fence about it. I'll need to finish the other three and see them all together before I make a final decision. This is my process and it's pretty OCD I'll admit. Please enjoy!
